Issues - Financial Responsibility

Just as families and businesses must live within their own budgets, it is important for our city government to operate within its means. I intend to continue supporting the sound financial practices that the City of Everett has in place. It is essential that we are reliably projecting tax revenues and expenses to ensure that we are well positioned for these challenging economic times, and that we maintain proper reserves and emergency funds for the city.

As we've seen, however, the economic outlook still remains uncertain. With my private sector experience and business background, I feel well prepared to help Everett stay mindful of future challenges. For example, the potential for revenue shortfalls means our city government must be particularly careful to avoid deficit spending in future years. Elected officials and staff have worked hard to reduce our municipal expenses, but we must remain cautious about spending public funds. As a City Council member, I intend to help them maintain this vigilance.

In the years ahead, strategic financial planning will be critical for maximizing the investments we make in Everett. With your support, I will continue to pursue a disciplined financial approach and seek opportunities to save taxpayers money. Together, we can maintain fiscal accountability and leave a legacy of good stewardship for the next generation.
